Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Ok. Where to start? I have been a little absent lately on both the personal blog front and also the Film Review front. I do have reasons, which I will briefly elaborate on shortly.

What I need to break to you - gently - is that I will be more absent next week and in particular, next weekend. The reason for this is that I am going to stay with my mum who does not have internet access in her flat. I know, this is the 21st century, how does anyone not have internet access? To be fair, she also doesn't own a computer so having internet access would be a bit pointless. But yeah, for a blogger, it kinda sucks! So please bear with me over the next few weeks.

I will hopefully have something special for you in the next day or so before I go home so keep your eyes peeled for that. And I will queue some items on my tumblr blog to keep you entertained.

Now, the reasons I've been a bit crap of late:

1, with regard to my personal blog, I only said there would be a personal blog if I had something interesting to write about. To be honest, I tried telling you that I'm not an interesting person but did you listen? Noooooooo! That's not my fault. Anyway, if you want to know what I did this sunny bank holiday weekend I will happily tell you but it probably won't blow you away.

2, I'm writing again. This will probably gain a 'huh?' from most of you. The rest of you will be screaming at your screen "why are you telling us this? This means you've jinxed your writing AGAIN!" as typically when I tell people I'm writing (stories rather than blogs), my creativity dries up and I inevitably stop writing for months at a time. But for the moment at least, yes, I am writing which means I have less time to dedicate to the blogs.

3, I have not been as busy as usual on the Film Review blog, pure and simple because there's not been anything I want to see at the cinema. And as long as I'm doing this for me, rather than it being my job, I'm only going to see films I want to see. The next new film I see is likely to be Scream 4 but I'm not sure I'll get to post my review before I go? If not, you'll have that and my Thor review to look forward to when I'm back from the north.

That's it really. Just wanted to give you a heads up on why I've not been updating new posts and why I will continue to not be around for the rest of this month. But as I said, I should have a new personal blog this week, which is something close to my heart, and a new film review, likely to be when I get back around May 4th or 5th? If you follow me on Tumblr I'll make sure you're entertained in the mean time!

Ciao for now.

Sibling Review Rivalry

Although I didn't blog about it on here you may have read about my recent family drama's with my older brother on my tumblr blog? If not and you want to know the backstory, go here: http://ladyk23.tumblr.com/post/4295772522/faith-hope-and-jake and here: http://ladyk23.tumblr.com/post/4309259247/the-good-the-bad-and-the-faithless

To sum up, we had a minor falling out over his lack of faith in me and my apparent lack of impartiality where a certain Mr Gyllenhaal is concerned.

His lack of faith proved to be unjustified (of course) when I eventually managed to publish my non biased Source Code review. He then proved I was right again by agreeing with me about the movie.

Now I may be shooting myself in the foot here and directing all my traffic to my brother's IMDb page but he has also submitted a review of Source Code here: http://www.imdb.com/user/ur15327507/comments

As you all enjoyed reading my review so much (BIG THANK YOU for that btw) I thought you might like to compare and contrast between my review and that of my brother.

Obviously I think my review's better (at least I can spell the name of the lead actor) but I did like it. And I must admit I got a small amount of satisfaction from the fact that he scored it exactly the same! I also liked that he used a different poster to me. Shows we have our similarities but that we also have our differences.

Good job bro!

The Good Old Days

For those of you who don't know me personally (and even for some of you who do), you may not know that I used to work at a cinema. I loved films before I worked there and growing up, it was my dream to work in a cinema. I dreamt small coz I lived in Preston. Anyone who lives in a town like Preston will understand. You love movies, you dream of working in a cinema rather than dreaming of, oh I don't know, being an actress!

The cinema I worked for was UCI, which was on the docks in Preston. It's still there but it's now an Odeon cinema instead. So I consider cinema cast members (if they still call them that), to be a sort of family. See, I never had a better job. Seriously. I loved it there. I realise that I'm now looking at it through rose tinted spectacles but I really did love it. And the people were awesome. Hence I still think of them, even in cinema's I've not worked at, like they're friends. My kind of people.

So it is with great pleasure that I tell you all of a fundraiser that 'friends' of mine are taking part in at the Odeon in Huddersfield. One of my real friends from the UCI days works there so it's not completely random.

**Team Members of the Odeon Huddersfield are undertaking the ultimate "Fanatical about Film" Challenge: A constant 24 hours of film watching.

Some films will be fun, some films will be an endurance but it is guarenteed that they will be bleary and wide eyed after a whole day of movies.

A pointy stick will be used to keep them awake if you generously sponsor the team on behalf of The Variety Club's Children's Charity and the NSPCC.**

We did one of these when I worked at UCI and I know it sounds easy and fun sitting and watching movies for 24 hours but it's really not. Especially if you're not enjoying the chosen film. You get tired, hungry and very cranky.

So please, go to their fundraising page and donate some cash to help the NSPCC. It's for charideeee! Odeon Huddersfield Film Challenge

Thanks!
